Multi-city ticketing site & a point-of-sale we built from scratch

Three cities selling the same finite time slots through two doors at once — a website and a counter. We made both read from one inventory.

The challenge

A venue sells the same finite thing through two doors at the same time. Sell a 4pm slot online and at the gate in the same minute and you have oversold a session full of children. The usual answer is to keep the website and the counter apart and reconcile the difference at closing, which means the difference has already happened.

What we did

  • Built the point-of-sale from scratch rather than bolting on a plugin, so it reads and writes the same WooCommerce orders and inventory as the website. Capacity is one number, not two that have to be agreed.
  • Modelled time slots with hard capacity caps and overbooking protection, synced live in both directions.
  • Designed the counter screen for speed under queue pressure: sell, look up a customer, apply a discount, adjust manually — each behind role-based permissions, so a discount is a decision someone owns.
  • Generated QR passes carrying valid, used and refunded states, so a dispute at the gate is settled by scanning rather than arguing.
  • Added cashier shifts and end-of-day summaries so cash reconciles against sales without a spreadsheet.
  • Built the locations hub to scale — Karachi opened first, Lahore and Islamabad joined the same system without a rebuild.

Outcome

What changed.

Qualitative where we don't yet have the client's clearance to publish figures. We'd rather say less than overstate.
